Introduction
• Fallen Condition Focus: We, like the people of Judah and Jerusalem, are guilty of pride and idolatry before the tribunal of God. We are in need of God's mercy.
• Sermon Theme: It is in times of the purification through burning – burning away our pride and burning away our idols – that our Father God draws near to us and calls us to draw near to him. This is the time we must humbly call upon him for mercy and for his Spirit to heal our broken souls.

I. Our Need – Our rebellion and pride lead us astray (Is. 1:2, 5, 23, 282:11; 17; 3:8, 18; cf. Is. 53:6)

II. God's solution – His cleansing through the ministry of his Messiah (Is. 1:18; 4:4; 53:6)

III. Our response – Draw near to the Lord in humble submission trusting in his Messiah (Is. 55:6-9)
