Seeing and Believing
Introduction
Fallen Condition Focus: Unbelief in the resurrection of Christ is a barrier to knowing him and experiencing his reality. A skepticism that cynically remains aloof from God can keep us from honestly looking at the evidence. A refusal to believe the evidence before our eyes is a choice we make. Likewise, a fear of looking into the tomb because we are afraid can be an impediment to spiritual growth and a firm confidence in the truth of the Gospel.
Sermon Proposition: Since Christ was no longer in the tomb, but rather appeared alive to his disciples with convincing proofs, let us look into the empty tomb ourselves and examine the evidence for Christ's resurrection and pursue a "whole-soul" faith.
1. The Empty Tomb (Jn. 20:1-10; cf. Jn. 19:31-42; Matt. 27:57-61; 28:11-15)
2. The Eye Witness Testimonies (Jn. 20:30-31; Acts 2:32; Luke 1:1-3)
3. The Doubters Who Believed (Jn. 20:24-29; Acts 9:1-6)
B. So What? What shall we do?
1. Examine the evidence for your mind
2. Consider the evidence for your heart
3. Make a choice
4. Share what you have found; show them through your life
